Dr. Stephen Brune recently returned from Manaus, Brazil — his eleventh trip since 2011 — where he volunteered his services to help provide healthcare to people in poverty-stricken areas of the world.
He joined a group of 28 healthcare volunteers from across the US to provide triage, medical, dental, chiropractic and pharmaceutical services to 2,000 people who don’t have access or cannot afford these services.
Dr. Brune said he finds it very rewarding to be able to use his knowledge and skills to help the poor in other countries, and he encourages others to do the same, especially if they find it their calling in life to experience other cultures. “It makes one appreciate what we have here in the US,” he added.
“Growing up in Pine Bush New York, I only knew about the remote areas of the world through textbooks in school. Now, I get to experience and appreciate them more… plus I get to help heal other people as well.”
Aside from Brazil, Dr. Brune has been to Nicaragua, Haiti, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Nepal, Peru, Sri Lanka, Ecuador and Colombia.
